Workforce Insights is powered by aggregated data trends from the millions of admins, managers, and employees who use BambooHR in the US and across the globe.

After January Spike, Nonprofit Job Openings and Hires Drop in February
- Globally, hiring decreased, and job openings increased slightly year-over-year, remaining steady from the previous month.
- In the US, turnover once again dropped to 2020 levels, hiring decreased, and job openings showed little change.
- Nonprofit job openings and hires decreased from January, a possible consequence of the Trump administration shutting down USAID and impacting thousands of nonprofits.
- The restaurant, food, and beverage and travel/hospitality industries saw the biggest month-over-month increases in job openings.
- Across all industries, hiring decreased from January.
- Review trends stabilized globally, with the US returning to normal trends after the end-of-year review period.
- In the US, PTO requests mirrored global trends, decreasing post end-of-year spike.

Hiring, Job Openings & Turnover
In February 2025, hiring and turnover decreased, while job openings remained steady.
Hiring
- In the US:
- 17% decrease in hiring from January 2025 to February 2025.
- 18% decrease in hiring year-over-year from February 2024.
- Globally:
- 18% decrease in hiring from January 2025 to February 2025.
- 17% decrease in hiring year-over-year from February 2024.
Job Openings
- In the US:
- No change in job openings from January 2025 to February 2025.
- 10% increase in job openings year-over-year from February 2024.
- Globally:
- Less than 1% decrease in job openings from January 2025 to February 2025.
- 10% increase in job openings year-over-year from February 2024.
Turnover
- In the US:
- 21% decrease in turnover from January 2025 to February 2025.
- 20% decrease in turnover year-over-year from February 2024.
- Globally:
- 18% decrease in turnover from January 2025 to February 2025.
- 18% decrease in turnover year-over-year from February 2024.

Industry Trends: Hiring, Job Openings & Turnover
- All industries saw a decrease in hiring and turnover from January to February, which is expected at the start of a new year.
- Following similar trends from last month, the travel/hospitality, healthcare, and construction industries had the highest proportions of hires.
- Travel/hospitality and healthcare also had the highest proportions of turnover, followed closely by the construction industry.
- The restaurant, food, and beverage industry had the lowest proportion of job openings.
- The education industry saw the greatest decrease in both hires (33%) and turnover (41%) of all industries from January 2025.
- The travel/hospitality industry saw the greatest increase in job openings (7%) from January 2025.
- The nonprofit industry saw a 28% decrease in hires, 27% decrease in turnover, and 2% decrease in job openings from January 2025. These were significant drops, especially after the gains they saw at the start of this year.

Regional Trends: Hiring, Job Openings & Turnover
- The Middle East and Africa, along with Europe, continue to have the lowest turnover rates.
- Latin America, Asia Pacific, and Europe remain the regions with the lowest number of job openings.
- North America and Latin America have the highest proportion of hires, while the Middle East and Africa, along with Europe, have the lowest percentage of hires.
- Latin America experienced the highest proportion of turnover among all regions.
Manager & Peer Reviews
- In the US, peer reviews continued to fall in February, decreasing by 36% month-over-month and 2% year-over-year. Manager reviews also dropped, decreasing by 19% month-over-month and 3% year-over-year.
- Overall, the combined peer and manager reviews in the US decreased by 32% month-over-month and 2% year-over-year.
- Globally, peer reviews also fell, with a 25% decrease month-over-month and an 8% decrease year-over-year. Manager reviews saw a 15% decrease month-over-month and a 2% increase year-over-year.
- The overall trend globally in reviews decreased by 23% month-over-month and by 6% year-over-year.

Employee PTO Requests & Approvals
PTO requests and approvals continued to decrease in February.
US PTO Requests:
- The proportion of employees requesting PTO dropped by 18% month-over-month and 6% year-over-year.
- Approvals decreased by 9% month-over-month and 7% year-over-year. In February 2025, US PTO requests were at 33%, with approvals at 16%.
Global PTO Requests:
- The proportion of total employees requesting PTO dropped by 18% month-over-month and 4% year-over-year.
- Approvals decreased by 10% month-over-month and 8% year-over-year. In February 2025, global PTO requests were at 38%, with approvals at 18%.
Regional Trends: Employee PTO Requests & Approvals
In February 2025, regional PTO requests and approvals continued to show similar patterns to previous months:
- Europe: Similar to last month, February also saw the highest percentage of PTO requests (62%) but the lowest approval (42%).
- Asia Pacific: Had 35% of employees requesting PTO, with an approval of 50%.
- Middle East/Africa: Had the second highest PTO approvals at 57%, with only 33% of employees requesting PTO.
- North America: Had 34% of employees requesting PTO, and was the region with the second lowest for approvals (50%).
- Latin America: Had the highest percentage of approvals at 62%, and the lowest percentage requested at 27%.
Industry Trends: Employee PTO Requests & Approvals
- Finance and nonprofit saw the highest PTO requests at 49% and 48% respectively, despite having lower proportions of PTO approvals.
- The healthcare industry had the lowest approvals at 36%, the only industry to fall below 40%.
- As we typically see, the travel/hospitality and restaurant, food, and beverage industries had the lowest PTO requested.
- Construction and restaurant, food, and beverage had the highest PTO approvals at 54% each, with tech following closely behind at 50%.
Methodology
All source data is from the BambooHR® platform, gathered between February 2018 and February 2025, and includes over 4.9 million employee data points across the globe.
The data includes employee and manager performance scores, PTO requests, and other data points that have been analyzed in an aggregated, anonymized way to protect the privacy of employees and the integrity of the metrics.
Turnover includes all types of separation of an employee from their company, including voluntary and involuntary separations.
